On the second and final day of the six-nations summit, PM Modi said that after 12 years of observership, India will get membership of SCO.
Modi said "With the induction of India in SCO, Shanghai Cooperation Summit will represent 42 percent population and 20 percent GDP which will act as a support to the success story of SCO". Prime Minister's Advisor Sartaj Aziz, Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir and Minister of State for Petroleum Jam Kamal were accompanying the prime minister.
"There was a very positive Chinese signal over the KMY (Kailash Mansarovar Yatra), some talks of parliamentary exchanges and also a detailed discussion on cultural cooperation", he added.
"The SCO has successfully stood the test of time, while millions of people all over the world have come to understand and appreciate its principles", he said.
Also congratulating India for joining the SCO family, the Prime Minister noted that the SCO gives us a powerful platform to build trust, peace and spur economic growth.
India says it can not accept a project that ignores its core concern on sovereignty and territorial integrity.
India and Pakistan put aside their long-running tensions, as they were officially confirmed as members of the increasingly influential Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), during a summit in Kazakhstan capital Astana.
Russia, in turn, has focused on broadening its Eurasian Economic Union integration project involving former Soviet allies.

While fully endorsing the SCO resolve to eliminate terrorism and extremism, Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan has valiantly fought against the menace.
Earlier today, Mr Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit.
During the meeting, Xi told Modi that the two sides should increase communication and coordination in multilateral affairs and appropriately control and handle disputes and sensitive problems, according to the China's official Xinhua news agency.
Pakistan, which has been an observer at the SCO since 2005, applied for a permanent membership in 2010.
The SCO will now include four nuclear powers - Russia, China, India and Pakistan - not to mention the member states' economies.
During the summit, the SCO chairmanship was transferred from Kazakhstan to China.
He said the mega project will benefit the entire SCO countries.
