Gulf states squeeze Qatar as US, Kuwait probe for solution to row

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration has suggested Tillerson, who as Exxon Mobil's CEO had business with Qatar, as a possible mediator for the dispute.

The alleged hack saw Qatar News Agency report that its leader, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, condemned efforts by Saudi Arabia to isolate Iran, its arch-rival.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain on Monday said they would sever all ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism and Iran. Several other countries followed suit.

He said Qatar, as an independent nation, also had the right to support groups like the Muslim Brotherhood, despite the fact that its neighbors view it as a threat to their hereditary rule.

"We have been isolated because we are successful and progressive".

CNN reported that United States investigators assisting the Qatari government in their probe into the alleged hacking believe that Russian Federation was behind the breach in May.

"If there is any sensible argument or sensible accusation, we are ready to answer", Sheikh Mohammed said.

Qatar has maintained its diplomatic clout in part by being the home of U.S. Central Command and the U.S's largest air base in the region and hosting branches of prestigious Western universities.

An initial report from Qatar's Interior Ministry late Wednesday said the website of the Qatar News Agency was first hacked in April with "high techniques and innovative methods".

Sheikh Mohammed said the presence of Hamas in Doha was aimed at helping secure reconciliation between the different Palestinian factions.

Media reports that Russian hackers influenced the global shunning of Qatar are based on "zero" evidence, the Kremlin claimed.

The United States is now attempting to play mediator in the crisis after a unsteady and confusing start.

"So good to see the Saudi Arabia visit with the King and 50 countries already paying off", tweeted Trump". The president himself pointed out that during his recent Middle East trip he admonished that financial support for terror must be cut-off.

The UAE added that Qatar had failed to abide by its agreement regarding the return of GCC diplomats to its capital, Doha, which was agreed in the US-Islamic Summit - attended by US President Trump - held in Saudi Arabia in May.
