But most of Philadelphia seemed pretty pleased with the pick, as you could tell from a report by Inside the Iggles, the Eagles' FanSided page. "I have to be more than just a fast guy, which I'm working on".
You can't even fault the crowds for booing commissioner Roger Goodell, because, really, has he gone anywhere in recent years without being booed?
But what about those for whom breathless analysis of the draft is a feature, and not a bug?
"So I expect him to definitely reach his full potential because of his make-up". "I had someone ask me a question back in 1978 or '79". It is: What the hell is wrong with you?
How much communication did you have with the Eagles going through the process?
For me, it was the whole big hoopla in Philadelphia around whether or not they should draft Donovan McNabb or Ricky Williams. Then again, White has always been hanging over him, in one football way or another. "I know how big he is and I know how big he is here". After Cunningham, you had the Detmers and Bubby Brister and Rodney Peete. I don't think I'm better than Reggie.
What makes the draft interesting to you?
I know a good amount, actually.
Minnesota could look to take a defensive tackle. Those are the four positions that teams should be drafting high in the first round.
[It all] revolves around trends, the way the league is changing, the type of year it is. A lot is going to happen between now and August. Football has changed, with the passing game growing.
MP backs call for election
Conservatives are leading because the Labour party has been marred by divisions over its leader Jeremy Corbyn and Brexit.
"No, sir, I don't feel pressure", Barnett said. "Then I got here [to WVU], and my junior college All-American stats didn't matter". And I was like, "From Miami of OH?"
"That's what I've got to do now". But at the same time we want to stick to our board and take the highest-rated guys that Joe and his staff put together. He uses power on people. One of my fraternity brothers was a prospect.
"You have set the bar of what the Draft is supposed to be like".
More than 75,000 fans, many dressed in Eagles green, packed the parkway surrounding the draft stage. I had an official 30 visit with them, but I did that with a lot of teams.
The 6-foot-3, 259-pound Barnett was rated by CBS draft analyst Dane Brugler as the No. 2 defensive end in the draft, behind only Texas A&M's Myles Garrett, who went to Cleveland with the No. 1 pick.
To be fair, when we named the five best places for Derek Barnett in the NFL Draft, Philly wasn't on here. Matthews is expected to be released once cleared from his injury, Sproles is in the a year ago of his contract at the age of 33, and Smallwood is coming off an average at best rookie season.
"He's the kid you'd like your daughter to marry", the personnel man said. "We think we got a tremendous player and a tremendous person". They had entered the weekend with one pick in each of the final rounds.
The Eagles saw that production. The team made three trades during the draft, all on the third day. "The truth is going to come out".
I got lucky and was picked from the waiting list. Pumphrey is a grinder and a heart and soul player, so Philadelphia will embrace his work ethic and drive, but he is built like Darren Sproles and may be more of a specialty back than an every-down starter like the Eagles need. "I'll look back on it as a positive, so that's how I'm viewing everything".
