Real Madrid reached a third Champions League final in four years after seeing off Atletico Madrid despite a 2-1 defeat in the second leg of their semi-final tie on Wednesday.

They took the lead on 12 minutes through Saul Niguez before Griezmann doubled their lead from the spot four minutes later. Griezmann famously missed a penalty against Real Madrid in last year's Final, so the pressure was vast after Raphael Varane tripped Fernando Torres.

Although Madrid were defeated by their city rivals, Zidane was pleased with the way they reacted after an opening salvo from Atletico that sent them two goals up in 16 minutes.

Atletico came out in the second half having to do it all again.

Atleti now needed five goals to go through and nearly got one on 66 minutes, but Keylor Navas performed a stunning double save on Yannick Carrasco and then Kevin Gameiro follow-up header.

Despite the 2-1 loss, it was enough for Real to set up a final-two meeting with Italian kings Juventus at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in June.

At a vigil on Tuesday night outside the store where Sterling was killed, dozens of people held hands and prayed. Amundson said they must establish beyond a reasonable doubt that use of force was unreasonable.

Zidane also praised Karim Benzema, who managed to dribble past three defenders near the touchline in the build-up to Isco's pivotal strike. But they got a huge scare on their last ever visit to the Calderon.

Diego Godin has the toughest job on his hands tonight.

Amid the chaos there were Blancos players who kept their heads.

Luka Modric was unbelievable. Madrid have now scored in 61 consecutive games, a testament to their squad's sheer depth of attacking solutions. The little Andalusian also got involved physically to help his side when the game was at its most intense. Good to see you back, big Ben.

Madrid began to dictate possession without creating much of a threat as the first half descended into a scrappy affair in which five players were shown yellow cards, including captains Sergio Ramos and Gabi, both for dissent.

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone: "Those first 30 minutes will be in the history of the stadium and the people".

Regardless of the outcome, it should be an emotional game for the home crowd at the Calderon. "A moment of genius from Benzema ended our dream but we never stopped fighting and I'm proud of everyone". It hasn't lost in 10 straight home games in European competitions.
