On Thursday in a rare public address Jared Kushner, H.R. McMaster, and Dina Powell shared the details behind President Trump's first foreign visit which will include a trip to Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the Vatican.

Trump, a senior administration official said, feels like accomplishing Middle East peace is "one of the things that he has to try to do" during his presidency and has been "very involved" with "a lot of ideas" during the trip's planning. He also will visit the Palestinian Authority, attend a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels on May 25 and a Group of Seven meeting of economic superpowers in Italy on May 26.

Israel's Channel 2 news first reported that Trump was considering delivering a speech from the ancient mountain fortress of Masada, but it is yet to be confirmed whether the USA president will make any address during his visit.

The formal White House announcement also emphasized the Saudi component of the trip.

Saudi Arabia's powerful Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met Trump in Washington in March in a visit a senior Saudi advisor called a "historical turning point" in relations.

Israeli officials reportedly wanted Trump's visit to coincide with the 50th anniversary celebration of the Six Day War and Jerusalem Day, which is often celebrated as the reunification of Jerusalem. The US is also now Saudi Arabia's main arms' source, but the two countries wish to strengthen their ties.

During his presidential campaign, Trump claimed Pope Francis questioned his faith after the leader of the Catholic Church said that Christians should seek to build bridges, not walls. "We are hoping to achieve peace between now and then", the official said.

"President Trump has also accepted the invitation of President Reuven Rivlin and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit Israel, where he will further strengthen the United States-Israel partnership".

In Israel, Trump will roll up his sleeves and dive into the spadework of brokering an Israel-Palestine peace deal, a task the former reality television host described Wednesday as "not as hard as people have thought", yet which has eluded every modern president.

In the briefing, three top Trump aides, who spoke on condition of not being named, sounded a slightly defensive note about Trump, whose broadsides against Islam during his campaign drew fire from American Muslims and from some foreign leaders of Muslim-majority states. The Trump visit will signal closer cooperation between the United States and Iran's adversaries. During the trip, officials will be talking about the peace process and the Palestinians including talk of what a good future would be for the region.
