Intense heatwave in Punjab, Haryana; Hisar sizzles at 45.4 degrees Celsius

Temperature in Delhi, on Sunday, soared to a maximum of 44.1 degrees Celcius.

"Winds blowing from north to southward direction will take its toll on night temperature more and heat waves coming from neighboring states can push the temperature up in coming days", weathermen said.

There is no respite in sight as the people in Delhi are set for a sweltering day on Sunday as well with the forecast that maximum temperature is expected to touch 44 degrees Celsius again.

The scorching conditions are likely to continue over the next 48 hours.

Monday will be just as hot, weather officials said, with a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius, though with partly cloudy skies.

Bihar witnessed hot and dry weather, with Gaya being the hottest place in the state at 43.9 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal. Jaisalmer, Barmer and Bikaner recorded maximum temperatures of 45.5 degrees Celsius, 45.4 degrees Celsius and 45 degrees Celsius respectively.

Hisar in Haryana registered the highest temperature of 45.4 degrees Celsius in the region, five notches above normal. Despite drop in temperatures in many places, the mercury breached the 40-degree mark in at least a dozen places.

The maximum temperature on May 7, 2016 was 35.25 degrees but eight degrees higher at 43.28 degrees on the same date in 2015.
