Lopez continued: "It's time for each and every one of us to start looking at what's going on on our blocks - identifying who is the gang member, who are the drug dealers and who is supporting them in our community, "CNN reported". The suspect, who was wearing a ski mask, robbed the fast food restaurant at gunpoint in the 7100-block of West Diversey, police said.

Gomez was the alleged driver of the vehicle in which the shooters were riding, Chicago Police said in a press conference Sunday morning.

Chicago PD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the attack was likely a response to the fatal shooting of another gang member earlier that day when a young man was killed. But officers saturated the neighborhood Sunday evening as they searched for the gunmen - and in hopes of dissuading a retaliatory incident.

"We have a fairly good idea who we're looking for", Deputy Chief Kevin Ryan said following the incident.

The killings on the city's Southwest Side mark the latest chilling spasm of violence in Chicago, which has seen more than 950 murders since the start of 2016. In the course of the last 16 months, Chicago - third-largest city in the USA - has witnessed more murders and non-fatal shootings than combined incidents in NY and Los Angeles.

Early Sunday morning, 26-year-old Daniel Cardova was fatally gunned down in the Brighton Park neighborhood in Chicago's South Side by two people carrying rifles in what Chicago police First Deputy Superintendent Kevin Navarro called "a gang-related murder".

Cardova, 26, was found shot dead on the street after officers responded to calls of shots fired at around 4:40 a.m. on Sunday.

Some parents said they ran to cover their kids who were playing outside when shots broke out.

No one is in custody for Cardova's killing.

Police say it's a gang shooting, retaliation from the previous shooting.

In both of the shootings police suspect gang members with high-powered rifles.

"The one I'm anxious most about is my son because he will be mistaken (for a gang member) and he is in that age group", she said.

Police on Saturday announced attempted murder charges against the alleged driver, 18-year-old Angel Gomez. He is expected to appear in bond court on Monday, according to Deenihan. He's suspected of driving the vehicle in which the shooters were riding, according to police. Police have suspected the guns are being passed around by members of the four rival Hispanic gangs in the area - La Raza, the Almighty Saints, Satan Disciples and Gangster Two-Six.

Ald. Raymond Lopez, 15th, who surveyed the shooting scene, expressed his frustration with the third rifle shooting in a week and called on neighbors to be vigilant in reporting criminal activity.
