Top Mexican Official Calls US Border Wall a 'Hostile' Act

Democrats mused that Republican lawmakers who slammed the growing national debt under President Barack Obama are now being asked to embrace a tax plan that could add trillions of government red ink over the next decade.

"He'll do the right thing, for sure, but I suspect he'll be insistent about the funding", Kelly said.

The comments came after reports that the Republican Party is having second thoughts about the wall as part of its strategy to avoid a government shutdown.

Richard Norton Smith has written several presidential biographies, including one on Herbert Hoover, who, like Trump, was a businessman before taking office. That gave Democratic leaders like Schumer and Pelosi significant leverage, and the top Democrats had earlier this month taken a hard line in response to Trump's threats to deny the Obamacare payments for out-of-pocket costs for the poor, injecting the issue into the spending bill talks. "The wall gets built, 100 per cent", the president said.

The escalated push to get Trump's priorities, which Democrats reject, into spending legislation could jeopardise prospects for an agreement to keep the government open.

This is a developing news story.

The Trump administration chose to delay demanding Congress to include border wall funding as part of a spending bill, averting a showdown that threatened to shut down the government as soon as Friday. "He wants it done as soon as we can do it", Spicer said.

Far-right nationalist and anti-euro candidate Marine Le Pen came in second with 21.42 percent, nearly exactly as polls predicted. Six officers and three demonstrators were injured during the protests at the Place de la Bastille.

Democrats and a number of border state Republicans said the wall was a pricey dealbreaker, but they've agreed in principle to more funding for border security and surveillance. The president did not address whether he would still demand Congress fund the wall in this week's spending bill.

But at least eight Senate Democrats are needed to pass this week's spending bill or the government will shut down Friday night and Democrats have stated they will not vote for the bill with border wall funding included.

Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions made their case Monday for building a wall along the southern U.S. -Mexico border.

Trump has also failed to make progress on building a wall between the USA and Mexico. "ABC News/Washington Post Poll (wrong big on election) said nearly all stand by their vote on me & 53% said strong leader", Trump tweeted in response.

"It's not a negotiation", Schumer said. With little to show in legislative victories so far, the Trump administration would love to claim achievements on Capitol Hill by that day.

"I'm particularly struck by how some of this seems to be turning on its head Republican economic theory", said Sen.
