Moyes later stated that he regretted his comments and had contacted Sparks to apologise, which was confirmed by Sunderland and the BBC.
Moyes was caught giving the controversial response during a post-match interview, after Sparks asked whether the rare appearance of Sunderland owner Ellis Short at the Stadium of Light during the game meant his future was at risk.
Speaking to Sparks after her interview concluded, following the scoreless draw, Moyes said: "It was getting a wee bit naughty at the end there so just watch yourself".
"You still might get a slap even though you're a woman".
