Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony Johnson fight for the second time this Saturday night with the UFC light heavyweight title on the line and they do so in Buffalo, New York, which is a mere stone's throw from where Jones grew up.
Anthony "Rumble" Johnson made a shocking revelation during his post-fight interview. Following this win, Cormier is likely going to compete opposite Jimi Manuwa.
When it was announced he made 205, everyone was aghast and his team whooped it up like they had won a rematch over Jon "Bones" Jones.
Johnson (22-5) has reeled off three straight wins since he lost to Cormier at UFC 187 in 2015. The knockout artist knocked Cormier down in the first round of their first fight and landed a head kick on Saturday in the opening frame that may have broken Cormier's nose. With his opponent squirming beneath him, Cormier rained down blows onto the unprotected skull of Johnson before locking in the rear naked choke. The two went head to head and it eventually ended with a submission by Cormier.
The arbitration panel found that while Jones was not a drug cheat and the fighter himself claims he ingested the banned substances when taking Cialis, a male enhancement supplement. I'm exhausted of getting punched by guys and rolling around on the ground with guys and stuff like that.
Macron, Le Pen continue to lead in poll as voting day looms
The following morning, he expanded on that remark by declaring the attack would "have a big effect on the presidential election". Earlier, the U.S. president tweeted that the attack, claimed by the Islamic State, "will have a big effect" on the vote.
His actions infuriated UFC president Dana White previous year, who vowed he would not book Jones in a main event again because of the trouble it caused.
But in sports, retirement isn't always permanent and Johnson admitted as much, saying a bout against the UFC former light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones is the one that got away.
"I knew he was a great wrestler", Johnson said. He's like, 'man, I was in the same situation as you, ' so obviously we both had some issues with our scales, or the commission had a scale issue. "That's what he was put on this Earth to do", said Cormier. At the end of the day I get the job done. Jones handed Cormier the only loss on his record. He's a good fighter, but still not eligible. Or will he have a tune-up fight before he gets a crack at winning back his old belt?
Cormier (18-1) finds himself in a almost identical situation for Saturday's championship rematch at UFC 210 at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, sitting as a -105 underdog (bet $105 to win $100) according to oddsmakers.
"If I was holding the towel, I was just trying to hide myself".
