An unknown gunman has attacked the US House of Representatives Majority Whip Steve Scalise shooting him during a baseball practice.
Scalise, 51, the No. 3 House Republican leader first elected to the House in 2008, was in stable condition and undergoing surgery.
None of the victims' injuries appeared life-threatening, authorities said. Rep.
Two Capital Police officers were shot as well.

The FBI is the lead investigating agency.
The shooter, a 66-year-old IL native named James T. Hodgkinson has died from his injuries, according to President Donald Trump. "He's shooting back across the in field at the man with the rifle". The assailant, prepared with "a lot of ammo", fought a gun battle with police before he, too, was shot and later died.

"We started giving him the liquids, I put pressure on his wound in his hip", Brooks said.
Gov. John Bel Edwards and Louisiana legislators gathered in the Capitol on Wednesday morning (June 14) to pray for U.S. Rep.
"The Vice President and I are aware of the shooting incident in Virginia and are monitoring developments closely".

Police chief Brown said his officers arrived at the scene within three minutes, engaged the suspect together with the Capitol Police officers and took him into custody. The shooter later died of his injuries, President Donald Trump told the nation from the White House.
Maybe now we can have another debate about guns in America. It was not immediately clear if the wounded officer was part of Scalise's detail.
"To actually know somebody that would do something as awful as this is a shock", Clark said.
"The only reason they were there was because we had a member of leadership on our team", Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky told MSNBC.
