Belarusian former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka, a two-time Grand Slam victor, is also set for a return to the Tour later this year after giving birth to her son Leo in December. Azarenka, 27, is planning to return to competition in July after Wimbledon.
Maria Sharapova is coming back next week from a 15-month doping suspension, while Victoria Azarenka is due to return this summer after having a child of her own.
Over the past year Williams' schedule has included few tournaments outside the Grand Slams.
We are very unlikely to see Serena compete in another Grand Slam before the French Open of 2018.
