North Korea threatens 'super-mighty preemptive strike' on U.S.

While Japan's trade surplus with the U.S.is much smaller than China's, Trump has decried the imbalance, especially in auto exports.

In response, the general staff of the North Korean armed forces threatened to launch a strike against U.S. military bases in Japan and South Korea, as well as the presidential residence in Seoul in case of United States aggression.

The United States, its allies and China are working on a range of responses to North Korea's missile test, USA officials have said.

In a statement carried by Pyongyang's state-run newspaper, the North Korean government also warned that the U.S.

Even though the missile blew up, the attempted launch was a violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions. During the recent military parade in Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang, North Korea rolled out new missiles on Chinese trucks.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned the USA against taking unilateral military action in North Korea on Monday at a press conference in Moscow.

Pence arrived in Japan after visiting South Korea and leaves for Indonesia later on Wednesday. Trump said. "I'm dealing with China with great respect".

Behind the heated rhetoric, Trump's strategy in the region looks somewhat similar to predecessor Barack Obama's - albeit with the added unpredictability of a new president who has shown he's willing to use force.

Trump responded by saying he doesn't "want to telegraph" what he's "doing or thinking", but went on to suggest the time for talk is over.
