Striving to salvage ties amid a fierce dispute over Syria, the United States and Russian Federation on Wednesday agreed to work together on an worldwide investigation of a Syrian chemical weapons attack last week that prompted retaliatory American missile strikes. The redeployment of U.S. military equipment to the border with Jordan was among the issues discussed by the foreign ministers of Russia, Syria and Iran Sergey Lavrov, Walid Muallem and Mohammad Javad Zarif in Moscow on Friday, the Syrian foreign minister said. We're a very, very strong country.

Not long before Trump spoke in Washington, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson struck a similar tone after an nearly two-hour meeting with Putin, saying the two countries had reached a "low point" in relations. Diplomats said Russian Federation came close to proposing its own resolution, which would have included language condemning the U.S. missile strikes in Syria last Thursday.

In a further indication of the stark differences, Russian Federation also slammed as "unacceptable" a proposed United Nations resolution put forward by the US, Britain and France on the alleged chemical attack, and said it would veto it in its current form at a vote expected later Wednesday. The Chinese UN ambassador later said it was regrettable that agreement could not be reached.

The vote on the Security Council resolution drafted by Britain, France and the United States was 10 in favor, Russian Federation and Bolivia against, and China, Kazakhstan and Ethiopia abstaining.

Prsident Putin has also suspended the "Deconfliction Line", a military channel created to provide an avenue for negotiation between Russian and USA fighter jet missions over Syria. "Now this is an approach incompatible with the legal norms". "Security Council members should have found compromise language that would have ensured an immediate investigation at the site of last week's attack".

Trump's action regarding North Korea is the standard one - move a carrier group close by and watch. "The final outcome does not provide for a role for Assad or the Assad family for the future governments in Syria", he said. De Mistura said that while there were no breakthroughs, there also were no breakdowns, and that the parties held substantive talks for nine full days on all the issues.

Tillerson avoided giving specific details of how Assad would leave power, saying, "We leave that to the process going forward".

Al Shayrat also highlights a too-often ignored aspect of this war, and the focus of this article: that Iran and Hezbollah have carried out grave war crimes and crimes against humanity - strongly resembling the crimes committed by the terrorists of the Sunni ISIS - against the Syrian people on Assad's behalf.

Despite recent tensions, Mr Trump said it would be "fantastic" if the United States and Russian Federation could have better relations.

"Today the president confirmed our readiness to return to its implementation on the understanding that the original aims of the air forces of the American coalition are reaffirmed, namely the fight with IS (Daesh) and Al-Nusra", Lavrov said.

"I liked how we spent yesterday".
