The Spurs duo of Kyle Walker and Danny Rose are on the flanks, with Chelsea's Gary Cahill and David Luiz manning the centre of defence.

It was inevitable. The PFA Team of the Year was announced and, despite being an excellent side, that most would happily back to represent the finest Premier League stars of the season, there was still some harrumphing and snorts of derision. Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton provide one player each to complete the team.

Spurs and Chelsea dominate this year's selection, courtesy of four inclusions apiece, as they continue to battle it out for the title.

Some also think that Hugo Lloris should have been included over Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea for his impressive performances in goal this season.

Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard, the PFA Player's Player of the Year in 2014-15, was also back in the line-up. Dele Alli and N'Golo Kante earn spots in the centre of the pitch.

The Premier League's top scorers Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, who have scored 20 and 24 goals respectively, lead the line up front.

Untied striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gunners forward Alexis Sanchez are both nominated for the individual PFA Player of the Year award but neither have been included in the team which will be officially unveiled at the award ceremony held at the Grosvenor House in London on April 23. Portsmouth defender Enda Stevens and Plymouth midfielder Graham Carey are the only Irish players to receive an award.
