Russell Westbrook capped his record-setting 42nd triple-double with a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Denver Nuggets 106-105 on Sunday. They became the first teammates to each reach 40 points in the same game in franchise history and the first in the National Basketball Association to do it since Westbrook and Kevin Durant in 2015.
Westbrook had already joined Robertson as the only players to average a triple-double over the course of a season.
"My motto is 'Why not?' and I always stick by it, regardless of what people say what is possible, is not possible", he said.
While many will believe that showing should clinch the MVP award for Westbrook, Harden feels the fact his Houston Rockets have eight more wins than the Thunder should have more of an impact.
Harden and Westbrook were former teammates with the Thunder for three seasons, from 2009 to 2012.
- Though Westbrook is now top of the pile, Robertson still dominates the list of best seasons in terms of triple-doubles. He hit a 36-foot three-pointer at the buzzer to give Oklahoma City the win.
As for if Westbrook will play Wednesday night against the Denver Nuggets, Thunder head coach Billy Donovan told reporters it had not be determined.

With the triple-double, he broke Robertson's previous record of 41, which stood since the 1961-1962 season with the Cincinnati Royals. Kyle Singer inbounded to Steven Adams, who handed off to Westbrook for the winning shot.

It also eliminated Denver from playoff contention - the eighth and final spot in the West goes to Portland Trailblazers. "Congratulations to Russell Westbrook on a magnificent season!"
Leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 46-34 mark, Westbrook has put up mind-blowing individual numbers, averaging an NBA-leading 31.7 points along with 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game.
"Y'all are probably going to get exhausted of me saying the same thing, but I promise you I've been blessed with so many things". The Thunder secured the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
On April 5 (AEDT), he scored 18 points in the third quarter to helped erase a 19-point deficit before finishing with 35 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 108-90 victory over the Toronto Raptors.
