Pence says despite the USA withdrawal from TPP, the economies of the US and Japan are intertwined.
US Vice President Mike Pence doubled down on the US commitment to Asia Pacific with a stern warning for North Korea, which he called the "most unsafe and urgent threat" to the region.
On Wednesday, Pence also reaffirmed the U.S.'s commitment to freedom of navigation in the South China Sea and said its common defense alliance with Japan extended to islands also claimed by China.
Pence said there are too many entry barriers to American businesses, which harms America's workers and its economic growth.
But President Donald Trump's administration has said this time and time again. He said that the dialogue could lead to formal talks on a U.S. -Japan trade agreement, but that he would leave that decision to the future.
Defence officials from the United States, South Korea and Japan, who were in Tokyo for trilateral security talks, said in a statement North Korea should give up its weapons development irrevocably.
US President Donald Trump also said he's sending an "armada" to Korea.
Trump says he prefers to negotiate with individual nations. "The U.S. government has not yet made an official request to discuss the Korea-U.S. [Korus] FTA".

Mattis credited China with trying to help get the North Korea situation "under control" with the goal of denuclearizing the peninsula. South Korea is on a list of countries Trump has ordered probed for potential trade abuse, a process he said is aimed at cracking down on "foreign importers that cheat".
Yoo stressed that he has not yet scheduled a one-on-one meeting with his USA counterpart during the G-20 meeting of economic minsters and central bank governors scheduled to be held in Washington later this week, or with China, which is retaliating against Korea economically for the deployment of a US missile shield.
Abe said that it was a "matter of paramount importance for us to seek diplomatic efforts as well peaceable settlements of the issue".
"GIs hurled fully armed MPs of the South Korean puppet army into perpetrating such risky provocations as aiming at" North Korea's side of the demilitarized zone, said the statement from the Korean Central News Agency, based in Pyongyang, the nation's capital.
