Guterres singled out the countries "in the front line" of contacts with North Korea - the U.S., China, South Korea, Russia and Japan - and said everybody involved should "make sure that everything is done for the threat represented by the development in relation to missiles and in relation to the potential for nuclear capability not to become a threat to the global community".

Russia's latest move hints at a possibility that the U.S. would have to be wary of this adversary before taking any military action against North Korea, especially after the fallout in Syria. "It is understandable that Donald Trump should issue a "serious" response [to it]", the political scientist noted. Ms Trump's company won provisional approval from Chinese authorities for three new trademarks, giving monopoly rights to sell Ivanka brand jewellery, bags and spa services in the world's second-largest economy, the Associated Press said. "More is unknown than known about the country".

He supports continued sanctions on the North, but has switched positions on the deployment of the U.S. missile defence system THAAD in the South, which has infuriated China.
Beijing is also dealing with divided public opinion domestically.
