US First Lady Melania Trump saved her daydreaming husband from an embarrassing breach of protocol, when he forgot to raise his hand to his heart for the national anthem while hosting his first Easter Egg Roll at the White House.
The first lady did a lot of research on previous White House Egg Rolls as she planned the event, her staff says.
Donald Trump had to be prompted to put his hand on his heart during the national anthem.
In the days after Donald Trump erroneously accused his predecessor Barack Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower during the 2016 election, the White House "put out an all-points bulletin" to "find something that justified the President's insane tweets about surveillance", The New Yorker's Ryan Lizza reports.
Before joining the festivities with his family, President Trump thanked his wife for "working on this for a long time to make it ideal". However, Stephanie Grisham, Communications Director of Melania Trump, confirmed that this year's smaller crowd was actually part of the plan.
"On behalf of the president and (our son) Barron, we wish you great fun and handsome days coming ahead of us", Xinhua news agency quoted the first lady as saying.
With Trump's relationship with the public already in question, the Easter Egg Roll would prove as an opportunity to convince other's that he is one with the American people.

Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, opted for a similar pastel-hued, long-sleeve, v-neck dress edged in silver metallic around the neckline and waist, and kept her heels.
Eleven-year-old Barron, the president's youngest child, will be the first son to live in the White House since John F. Kennedy Jr.
