A SC family said a 9-foot alligator climbed a 15-foot staircase and broke through a screen door to trash their enclosed porch Easter morning.

The Polston family of Mount Pleasant, S.C., says they were awaken Sunday morning by commotion on their front porch.

The Polston family, who lives in Mount Pleasant, said they first thought someone was trying to break-in to their home, but found that the gator had climbed onto their porch.

The family called the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

According to the Polstons, the intruding gator broke through a locked door before settling among patio furniture on their porch.

Alligator experts say an alligator climbing a flight of stairs like that is extremely rare - but they said because it's Spring, the animal was likely going to desperate measures in its pursuit of a mate. During the springtime, alligators are typically making their way out of hibernation and into warmer waters, not making their way into homes, wildlife officials told WGHP.
