The Boston Marathon started and ended on Monday, with Kenya sweeping the men's and women's divisions.
Kiplagat finished in 2:21:52 to win her Boston debut, adding the victory to two world championships and wins in London, New York and Los Angeles. Switzer continued to race, winning the 1974 New York Marathon and taking second in Boston two years later.
Jordan Hasay finished in third in her first Boston Marathon.

Defending champion Atsede Baysa of Ethiopia was out of the top 10 and slowing at the halfway point.

The straight-line Boston course doesn't qualify for a world record, because of the possibility of a supportive tailwind like the one on Monday. She holds the fastest times for a 12 year old (17:06) and 13 year old in the McConnell's Ice Cream 5k. It was a hot day in Boston today and it looks like one runner in particular was on fire! This year Switzer returns to run the 26.2 miles, but the organizers will be honoring her instead of trying to throw her out. She was also given the honour of firing the gun for the women's elite runners, which flagged off the marathon.
It was the first time since 1991 that two US women had finished in the top four, with Desi Linden placing fourth. But nearly all sports were for men; women rarely participated.
The rest of the field will follow in waves.
Security at the race remained very tight following 2013's deadly terrorist bombing on Boylston Street.
