The White House's annual Easter Egg Roll took place on Monday, and as is tradition, the event was kicked off with a performance of the National Anthem.
However, ahead of the festivities, US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania and their son Barron were standing on the White House's Truman Balcony in preparation for the national anthem.
In bows and fedoras, children gathered with their families bright and early for the 139th White House Easter Egg Roll. For a couple of minutes today, the president sat at a picnic table with his wife Melania, son Barron, and other children, where they used markers to write notes to active duty service members.
Though this year's Easter Egg Roll was smaller than last year's, which drew more than 30,000 attendees, Stephanie Grisham, spokeswoman for first lady Melania Trump, told The Washington Post that was by design.
The egg rolling event, which dates back to 1878, was smaller than previous years - down from the 35,000 people who got tickets last year - but retained such activities as a reading nook where messages can be sent to USA troops.
The first lady's plans have been no secret, with officials saying in November that she and Barron would continue to live at Trump Tower in NY until Barron completed his current school year. You see what's happening, and we are right on track.

She finished the race in four hours and 20 minutes, but would later be disqualified and expelled from the Amateur Athletic Union. When she was discovered, after the marathon had already started, the race director tried to rip her bib numbers off her back.
- According to the National Archives, the White House Easter Egg Roll has been held nearly every year since. Even so, Donald Trump's administration denied the Times article and assured Americans the storied event would go off without a hitch on Monday.
A total of some 18,000 Easter eggs were made available to the kids, however, by the White House.
But the one guest that truly matters on Easter did make an appearance - the Easter Bunny, or, at least, a slightly creepier, slightly more shocked, and slightly visually impaired version of the Easter Bunny.
Is Melania Trump the HOTTEST first lady ever?
"I really like the book because it shows that we are all different, but we are all the same", she said as she began reading.
