Russian Federation has warned that the USA missile strikes could have serious consequences for the region.
President Trump had spoken out during his election campaign against USA military intervention, and had been keen to fix relations with Russian Federation, whose president Vladimir Putin backs the Assad regime.
The United States on Thursday fired 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles from warships in the Mediterranean at the Shayrat airfield near Homs in central Syria.
On Friday, the U.S. fired dozens of cruise missiles at a Syrian air base from which it said a deadly chemical weapons attack had been launched earlier in the week, escalating the United States role in Syria and drawing criticism from Assad's allies.
"You pick and choose your battles and when we're looking at this, it's about changing up priorities and our priority is no longer to sit there and focus on getting Assad out", Haley had told reporters on March 30, just days before dozens of Syrian civilians died from chemical weapons injuries.
"In no way do we see peace in that area with Assad as the head of the Syrian government", Haley told NBC's "Meet the Press".
National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley all made appearances on Sunday news shows in which they gave different perspectives on what comes next for the Assad regime.
Haley said the US was prepared to take further action in Syria but hoped it wouldn't be necessary.
Russia and Iran have accused the USA of crossing "red lines" in ordering the airstrike, and the Russian embassy in the United Kingdom said attempts to push for sanctions could lead to a "real war".
New Caledonia, Vanuatu, New Zealand
Last week, another violent cyclone that struck Australia - Debbie - was also felt in some areas from New Zealand. Earlier this week, Cyclone Cook killed one person when it swept through the Pacific islands of New Caledonia.
"The United States attacked the territory of sovereign Syria", Russian Deputy Ambassador Vladimir Safronkov told the council, denouncing a "flagrant violation of global law and an act of aggression".
Iran's Mohammad Baqeri and Russia's Valery Gerasimov "stressed that the two countries would continue their cooperation with the Syrian government until the full defeat of the terrorists and their backers in the country", IRNA added.
Lawmakers from both the Democratic and Republican parties were supportive of Trump's decision to attack the Syrian air base, but some Republican senators said they were concerned about the lack of policy clarity and Tillerson's strategy of leaving Assad's fate unresolved while concentrating on Islamic State.
Trump announced the strike in a brief televised address.
On Saturday, one woman was killed in a suspected Russian airstrike on Khan Sheikhoun, the Observatory said.
Meanwhile, the Observatory on April 8 said suspected US -led coalition warplanes hit an Internet cafe in the IS-held village of Hneida on the outskirts of Raqqa, the de facto IS capital, killing at least 17 and injuring 12.
Russian Federation has stood by Damascus despite the global uproar, insisting the chemical weapons that caused the deaths in Khan Sheikhun had been stockpiled by "terrorists" and possibly released by a conventional strike.
And while USA lawmakers have shown general support for the attack, many have called on the president to get authorization from Congress before taking further military action.
