The first one may have taken 74 attempts but new Masters champion Sergio Garcia is thirsty for more majors.
Drawing strength from Spain's greatest golfers, Sergio Garcia finally managed to win a major.
A month later he finished second to Tiger Woods in the US PGA Championship at the age of 19, but had since recorded a further 21 top-10 finishes without tasting success.
Spain's Sergio Garcia ended almost two decades of Major disappointment when he beat England's Justin Rose in a playoff to win the U.S. Masters on Sunday, donning the Green Jacket on what would have been the 60th birthday of his hero and two-time champion, the late Seve Ballesteros.
"The only thing I can do is hopefully change that up, so the next time we come to the USA, they will tell me, 'Ah, you only have one major, ' or something like that, which will sound a little bit better, " Garcia said.
Sergio Garcia is the proud owner of a nice new green jacket after his dramatic win at the Masters on Sunday.
"I don't know if it hasn't sunk in or something but it doesn't feel that different".
Traditionally, the victor chooses the menu for the champion's dinner but Garcia would only reveal, "It's going to be a Spanish dish".
"Jose Maria's note was very special because he's my idol".
Retail sales fall for a second straight month as auto sales tumble
However, the increases were offset by significant declines in sales by building material and supplies dealers and gas stations. Retailers have been hurt by declining mall traffic and increased competition from online retailers, led by Amazon.com.
"He definitely popped in my mind a few times, there is no doubt about it", Garcia said of Ballesteros, who died in 2011 of complications resulting from a cancerous brain tumour.
Olazabal also told Garcia that "I'm not sharing my (Champions room) locker until I get to do it with you". And it took a great final round on Sunday for him to win the championship.
It didn't matter. Garcia curled in a 12-foot birdie that gave him the green jacket.
He missed a 14-foot par-saving putt that would've put some pressure on the Spaniard.
What happened next perhaps was turned the tide in Garcia's favour.
"Once you have one out of the way, the questions become easier", Rose said.
Garcia has been plagued by self-doubt in the Majors and once said he did not have what it takes to be a Major victor. But I'm not going to lie, that thought kind of changed through the years, because I started feeling uncomfortable here.
"Some of the moments at Augusta I didn't enjoy as much and how stupid I really was to fight something you can't and how I was able to accept things and do things better than I ever had".
Then he was asked again Monday on "The Today Show" during his NY media tour, and it seemed more likely. "But I knew what I was capable of doing, and I believe that I could do it". "And, they've always been very good to me here, but I do have to say that even I was a little bit surprised about how unbelievable they were all week to me", he said.
