Last time they met, in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge, it was an emotionally-charged affair with touchline clashes, a red card and more joy for Conte's Chelsea. United will look to boost their chances at a top-four spot with a win against the Blues. An unbeaten run of 21 games in the Premier League tells you that.

Luke Shaw hopes to get more opportunities in the Manchester United side to impress Jose Mourinho between now and the end of the season after declaring he is working harder than ever.

It is "just a game", Mourinho insisted, and yet it feels like it could be the defining game in their season.

Conte, unlike Mourinho who ground out wins during the title-winning 2014-15 season, has not done anything of that sort and relied on his team's searing pace to dismantle teams.

Conte also has the luxury of being able to pick from a full squad, after Victor Moses made his return from a toe problem in last weekend's 3-1 victory at Bournemouth.

Mourinho's men are six points behind third-placed Liverpool, over whom United have two games in hand.

"It's not for no reason that they are top of the league".

The left-back saw his "focus and ambition" publicly questioned by the United manager as he struggled to hold down a regular place in the side following his return to action from a double leg fracture.

When asked what the last few months have been like for him, he said: "Very, very tough, but I took it in a positive way, didn't take it in a bad way or sulk about it or anything".

He said: 'It's only a sporting competition between him and me.

"I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I want to push for the best from me", Shaw continued.

"I don't think we are far away".

You can fairly say that they were unfortunate to be sucker-punched in Brussels but when the sample size is much bigger it is not written off quite so easily.

"I really want to be involved, it's going to be a very good game, very intense game and that's why we all play football, for these massive moments and these massive games", he added.

"Now it's my time to fight until the end of the season and show the boss what I can bring to help his team".
