San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey has been placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list after he was struck in the helmet by a 94 miles per hour fastball on Monday.

Posey will be re-evaluated Tuesday but was doing fine, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

"It's a very athletic club, " Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

In the first innings, Arizona pitcher Taijuan Walker sent down a fastball that proved too quick for Posey to catch up with, hitting him flush on the side of the helmet and knocking him to the ground.

Walker was booed at the conclusion of the inning and every time out thereafter. Matt Moore was brilliant over eight innings, and in a play not often seen beyond Little League, the Giants scored three runs on the pitcher's swinging bunt in the fourth inning. In 2015, he held a 2.85 ERA, earning him Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year honors.

New Giants closer Mark Melancon (R) is congratulated by catcher Nick Hundley after the final out of the Giants 4-1 win Monday in their home opener. "If we can go out and pitch deep in the ball game, we know offensively how good we are and defensively".

Wenger: Arsenal ace Ozil 'hit hard' by Champions League exit
We had a few opportunities through the set pieces, through corners and a few fouls and through counter-attacks, and we were good. But they deserved to win. "They are not do-or-die situations but we don't want to come into a do-or-die situation".

NEW YORK - Michael Pineda retired his first 20 batters before Evan Longoria lined a double down the left-field line, and he wound up pitching two-hit ball over 7 2/3 innings in New York's home opener. Jarrett Parker added a two-run triple for San Francisco. In his career at Triple-A, he owns a.304/.375/.511 slash-line with 91 doubles and 50 home runs over 329 games. This one looked like a mistake and that's exactly how Posey interpreted it. "That's always scary. You never want to do that". The right-hander's outing was a major improvement over his season debut in Arizona, when the Diamondbacks hit three home runs against him.

A day prior, Bochy didn't deny that the Giants had plunked Peralta.

I'm not a big fan of Matt Cain, as the dude has been getting tagged far more than he has solid performances.

"We're in a good place right now", Lovullo said. RHP Jake Barrett (shoulder inflammation) will throw a rehab inning Tuesday at extended spring training, while LHP Jorge De La Rosa will do the same Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks left Chase Field with the best record in baseball, 6-1, and the highest run differential at +19.

Giants: After going 2-0 against Arizona last season, RHP Jeff Samardzija tries to avoid dropping to 0-2 in 2017 vs. the Diamondbacks.
