Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez smiles as he sits at the defense table during jury deliberations in his double murder trial of at Suffolk Superior Court in Boston, Mass., Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

As jurors in the double-murder trial of ex-NFL star Aaron Hernandez deliberated for a second day Monday, one of Hernandez's lawyers told the judge that his selection of a white woman as forewoman of the mostly minority jury has "troubling racial overtones".

Jurors have spent about 21 hours deliberating since Friday. Two questions have been asked as they work through eight different charges against Hernandez in a trial that arises from the July 2012 shooting deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.

Judge Jeffrey Locke, referring to an objection the defense first made last week, said he found it "astounding" that Sullivan would make that claim. Bradley, who is serving a five-year sentence in CT for a shooting in a Hartford club in 2014, has been granted immunity by prosecutors in exchange for his testimony in the Hernandez trial.

The victims were Cape Verdean.

Hernandez is already serving a life sentence for the June 2013 execution-style slaying of his friend Odin L. Lloyd, a semi-pro football player from Dorchester. Hernandez's father is Hispanic, and his mother is Italian.
