The CEO of United Airlines has issued a letter to staff conveying his "deepest apologies" for a "truly horrific" incident during which a passenger was forcibly removed from an overbooked plane. On the bright side, social media won't stop roasting the airline with glorious memes and tweets.
If the airline is overbooked, their policy states that united will provide transportation without stopover on its next flight to convince you to give up your current seat.
The passenger, 69-year-old David Dao, has obtained a personal-injury lawyer and asked the Cook County Court to issue an order for United and the city of Chicago to keep all footage, audio recordings, and any other reports and material from the flight, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Munoz's appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America" was the first time he has spoken publicly about the incident that has led to a massive backlash against the airline. He was then forced from the plane by law enforcement. When no one voluntarily came forward, United selected four passengers at random. Dao was removed from the flight out of Chicago's O'Hare to make room for United crew members who needed to board to work a different flight.
On Tuesday night, the CEO of United Airlines finally said sorry to Dao.
"The DOT remains committed to protecting the rights of consumers and is reviewing the involuntary denied boarding of passenger (s) from United Express flight 3411 to determine whether the airline complied with the overseas rules", it said in a statement.
Russian Federation accuses United States of 'unlawful attack' on Syria
Tomahawk missiles at a Syrian air base that the U.S. says was used to pummel civilians with nerve gas, resulting in 87 deaths. Putin has spoken of having proof that it was a "false flag" operation meant to rally worldwide opposition to Assad.
Munoz, who leads United's parent company, apologized again to Kentucky physician David Dao, his family and the other passengers who witnessed him being taken off the flight.
"I apologize for having to re-accommodate these customers".
As you will read, this situation was unfortunately compounded when one of the passengers we politely asked to deplane refused and it became necessary to contact Chicago Aviation Security Officers to help. "That officer has been placed on leave effective today pending a thorough review of the situation", the statement said.
"The aviation security officer in question is on paid administrative duty pending an investigation", a spokesman for the Chicago Department of Aviation said Tuesday.
"I wish the president would not have taken any options of the table", Davis said.
Dao, before being dragged off the parked plane, said repeatedly that he was being discriminated against because he was Chinese, according to Tyler Bridges, a fellow passenger on the flight from Chicago to Louisville, Kentucky.
