Following Barcelona's defeat to Malaga, Real Madrid are at the top of La Liga, three points ahead of Catalans with one game in hand.
The Brazilian would typically have received a one-match ban for the dismissal but due to his alleged sarcastic applause for the fourth official when he left the pitch he has been punished with an additional two-game suspension.
Barcelona winger Neymar will miss this month's El Clasico with Real Madrid after receiving a three game suspension.
Neymar picked up a pair of senseless yellow cards on Saturday and got sent off with 25 minutes left and his team trailing by a goal at Malaga.
Neymar has started 26 matches for Barcelona in La Liga this season, scoring nine goals and notching 10 assists.

As expected, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique didn't have many nice things to say about the officials from his club's previous game. He was given a yellow card for "obstructing a free-kick" when he bent over to tie the laces of his shoes.
Since the suspension applies to domestic competitions only, Neymar is free to take part in both legs of Barcelona's UEFA Champions League quarterfinal against Serie A side Juventus.
"They scored with their first chance thanks to our mistakes in interpreting the offside", added Enrique.
"We have to be very careful in some games because there were some ugly challenges from behind that went unpunished and tying boots was". "I don't understand certain fouls were not given to us, but we are used to it.".
The existing Spanish champs were offered a boost after Real's 1-1 draw with city competitors Atletico earlier. If they would have won against Malaga, who are now in the 14th spot of the points table, they could have leveled on the points table with Real Madrid.
