Sadly, one of the students, an 8-year-old boy named Jonathan Martinez, died from his injuries after being rushed to the hospital. Anderson then killed himself.
Anderson, who had married Smith in January but moved out of their Riverside house in mid-March, told North Park staff that he wanted to drop something off for his wife, Burguan said. They did, however, find a note believed to be written by Anderson that spoke of feeling disrespected and needing to find closure.
Unlike the 2015 massacre, carried out by a radicalized Muslim couple in what authorities described as an act of terrorism, police said the latest shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute between the suspect and his wife.
Burguan said it was unclear whether that arrest had anything to do with Anderson's wife, also 53. She would call her mother and say Anderson threatened to kill her.
"You know, it's not a scary place to be, and just kind of help him process more and re-experience what happened to hopefully make this as healthy and experience as can be given the circumstances", Gutierrez said. "She had no idea".
"She was concerned about his behavior and he had made some threats toward her. There does not appear to be a breakdown of security", Burguan said.
"She keeps telling me 'My teacher got shot, my friend got shot, '" her mother, Elizabeth Barajas, said as she clutched her daughter's blood-stained sweatshirt. "She was resistant to that".
"I don't know if that just reached a boiling point or what it was", Burguan said.
"It's frustrating for us as parents but also understandable", Holly Penalber said of the long wait, which most parents seemed resigned to.
San Bernardino Police Capt. Ron Maass, the incident commander, said Anderson had gone to the classroom to visit Smith.
Sergio Garcia Wins First Major in Playoff at Masters
Spieth had it all to do after bogeying three and birdieing just one of his opening six holes. This year's Masters is his 74th major championship and he is still yet to win one.
Cedric Anderson's Facebook timeline would leave one thinking he was living in a state of marital bliss with wife and San Bernardino special education teacher Karen Elaine Smith.
A day after a heartbreaking shooting left a teacher and 8-year-old special needs student dead in San Bernardino, details of a distressing alleged past of domestic violence emerged Tuesday after multiple restraining orders against the shooter came to light. "Her whole life was surrounded around kids and helping them, and helping them build a future", Cabreras said. "She thought she had a wonderful husband, but she found out he was not wonderful at all", Sykes was quoted as saying.
Marissa said the shooter didn't speak as he began shooting.
Burguan added: "We were also told from the family that she didn't necessarily take those threats seriously".
A 9-year-old boy wounded in the shooting Monday at a Southern California elementary school is recovering and expected to survive, officials said.
Dorn said people should be aware of safety risks at schools besides being shot. Authorities have not released his name.
Marsden said all district policies were complied with when Anderson was let onto campus.
"I met with the Martinez family earlier this morning and by all accounts Johnathan Martinez was a happy child who was born with William's Syndrome", Dr. Marsden said. Students gathered on a field near a line of school buses and other vehicles, including fire trucks.
One of them, Jonathan Martinez, who suffered from Williams Syndrome, was fatally injured.
