Buster Posey was doing well on Monday night after being struck in the helmet by a 94 miles per hour fastball from Arizona Diamondbacks starter Taijuan Walker.
Posey was plunked by a fastball on his batting helmet Monday afternoon, and while it's not thought to be anything too severe, the Giants want to err on the side of caution. The star catcher says he's OK after getting beaned in the head, but manager Bruce Bochy says, "Those are always moments when you hold your breath". A season ago, the Giants saw second baseman Joe Panik hit with a pitch similar to the one Posey was struck with. Athletic trainer Dave Groeschner sprinted toward the plate and Bochy was right behind.
Attendance: A sellout crowd booed the hell out of Walker but gave lengthy ovations to Javier Lopez and Barry Bonds, who were honored during mid-inning breaks. The Giants are smart enough to know that just because they couldn't diagnose him with a concussion yesterday doesn't mean he doesn't have one, so they're going to watch him real carefully.
Pitching at AT&T Park for the first time since Game 4 of the NLDS, Moore got off to a hot start.
Right-handers Shelby Miller and Matt Cain, who combined to lose 20 games last season, will try to maintain their managers' confidence when they duel in the rubber match of the series. The Giants are 5-1 in their last 6 during game 3 of a series, 2-7 in Cains last 9 starts with 4 days of rest and 19-40 in Cains last 59 starts.
The cyclone storm which struck Australia
Ms Palaszczuk said the impact of the cyclone would be felt for the next three to five days as it travelled down the coast. The federal government has activated its disaster response plan, working with the Queensland government.
"It's a scary moment, risky moment", Bochy said.
OUR PICK: Both of these teams have seen each other as recently as last week, as the Diamondbacks took two of three at home against the Giants.
The Diamondbacks (6-2) closed within 3-1 on a solo home run by Yasmany Tomas leading off the fifth, but that was the extent of the damage against Moore (1-1), who allowed only three hits in eight innings.
The San Francisco Giants need a win here to rebound from their rough 3-6 start to the Major League Baseball season. Walker fielded Moore's chopper midway up the first-base line and fired wildly to home, allowing Crawford and Panik to score. "A pitch got away from him". At left is Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Jeff Mathis.
