Los Angeles Angels' Carlos Perez, right, celebrates his 10th-inning walk-off bunt with Cameron Maybin in a baseball game against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, in Anaheim, Calif.
In between their runs in the ninth and 10th - the victor coming on Carlos Perez's squeeze bunt - Mike Trout robbed Mike Napoli of a home run with a leaping catch in the top of the 10th.
The Angels had rallied to score seven runs in the ninth in the previous game on Sunday to beat the Mariners. That was their biggest ninth-inning comeback in nearly 31 years. He earned a key role in the bullpen past year, posting a 2.48 ERA and 0.941 WHIP over 61.2 innings. Yunel Escobar went 2 for 5 with a pair of RBI while Jefry Marte matched the RBI total in his lone appearance at the plate with a pinch hit. They tacked on one more run in the eighth, before exploding in the ninth. Andrus, once again, provided the damage by launching a home run to double Texas' advantage.
But for eight innings the Rangers had done enough to win the first game on their nine-game, three-city West Coast road trip. It's also worth noting that star hitters Mike Trout and Albert Pujols are a combined 4-for-22 (.182) with one homer versus Hamels.
Pujols delivered a line single to left field that easily scored Trout to tie the game at 5-5. It should be noted that the other possibility for the role, Jeremy Jeffress, has not done much to improve his chances, in fact, he was credited with the loss Tuesday night. Danny Espinosa then singled into right, sending Maybin to third. The catcher dropped his bat and put down an idyllic bunt, 30 feet down the first-base line, too far from home and too far from first for Texas to do anything.
Left-hander Cole Hamels started for the Rangers and allowed one run on four hits in his seven innings. He moved to third on a Nomar Mazara ground out.
United loses $250 million of its market value
At the closing bell, United (UAL) shares were down 81 cents, or 1.1%, to $70.71 per share, but well off their lows for the day. Finally, Barclays PLC began coverage on shares of United Continental Holdings in a research report on Thursday, December 15th.
Jonathan Lucroy hit a three-run homer and Elvis Andrus a solo shot to give the Rangers the early 5-0 lead in the third.
On the bright side, Skaggs at least collected himself after that and still made it into the sixth.
While Angels starters have not had a great start to the season, the bullpen has picked up the slack.
It was the third time in the young season the Angels have won a game in which they've allowed five runs, which is probably not a sustainable formula.
Mason Plumlee and Malik Beasley scored 16 apiece in the first game for the Nuggets (39-42) since getting eliminated from the postseason.
