Mourinho 'really pleased' with Shaw showing at Sunderland

Jose Mourinho's men were impressive at the Stadium of Light, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford all finding the net during a feisty encounter in the North East.

Former Sweden global Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened the scoring on the half-hour mark with a lovely finish into the bottom-right corner, giving United a deserved lead.

Ibrahimovic fired the Reds ahead with a stunning 20-yard strike on 30 minutes before his Swedish compatriot, Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson, saw red for a high challenge on Ander Herrera shortly before the half-time break.

Jose Mourinho has endured a hugely frustrating endeavour trying to steer United into the top four this season.

Evergreen Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic likened himself to film character Benjamin Button after inspiring his team to a 3-0 victory at Premier League basement club Sunderland yesterday. "It was good to protect him but was also good for him to play one hour with a good solid performance and no mistakes, so I'm really pleased for him".

United have 57 points from 30 games, four behind fourth-placed Manchester City having played a game fewer.

One of the players who has been struggling in front of goal is Jesse Lingard, who recently signed a new and improved contract, and Giggs has urged the England global to step up his game.

Among Allentown's Syrians, mostly shock over Trump missile strike
A chemical attack on the rebel town of Khan Sheikhoun that killed 80 people earlier in the week changed his mind, Mr. Larson also sounded off about the missile strike, although he was more critical of Congress than the president.

With a firm measure of control throughout, the Reds cruised to a first win on Wearside in four years - the ideal preparation for Thursday's crucial Europa League quarter-final tie against Belgian side Anderlecht.

Shaw has been criticised on more than one occasion by Mourinho this season and the United boss claimed after the 1-1 draw with Everton that the 21-year-old had been playing with "his body and my brain".

After Sunderland recorded a seventh match without a goal to leave them bottom and 10 points adrift of safety, Moyes added: "We won't talk about relegation until it's mathematically impossible to stay up even though there's no hiding that we're in a tough position".

"The result was good", Mourinho told MUTV. "It was "yes". We got three points and it was a solid display".

With Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney already sidelined, United's teamsheet for that clash with Sunderland was notable for the absence of David De Gea.

The Red Devils have huffed and puffed but the teams above them - the likes of Liverpool and Man City - won't let up. In away games we have to do the same.
