The New England Patriots quarterback talked about Luck's decision and the timing of it Monday on WEEI's Greg Hill Show.

The Colts essentially are telling Luck to keep it all, even though it is within their rights to reclaim the money.

Luck's retirement does change how the National Football League landscape plays out and makes the team that was consistently thought to be a top-10 team this season a bit shaky.

On Saturday night, the 29-year old Luck announced that he was retiring from the NFL.

"It's a tough thing". I'd love to hear more about it. [Hilton] in the eye. And one of MI football's best supports him. And with all that, in the process of getting beat up weekly, he brought the team all the way to the AFC Championship Game in 2014-15.

Peter King reported Monday that Luck informed Colts owner Jim Irsay, GM Chris Ballard and Coach Frank Reich that he planned to retire on August 19, in part because of a calf injury that was not healing properly.

However, the midfielder suffered an unfortunate injury against Norwich City which forced him off in stoppage-time. That comes from work on the training ground.

"Fans need to understand that man, this game, as physical as it is, is taxing on everybody's body", Thomas said.

The Houston Texans couldn't have known when they made the move, but trading for Duke Johnson during training camp ended up being a huge addition after Lamar Miller's season-ending ACL injury suffered in Saturday's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't hear the reaction, "he said in a press conference shortly after where he confirmed his retirement". "I'm excited to watch him play".

While the wannabe professional athletes attack, real NFL Stars took to social media to defend Luck's early and unexpected retirement from the game.

After three injury-plagued seasons, Luck returned previous year with a new perspective about the physical pain, mental fatigue and emotional agony it took to keep fighting his way back. "The only way forward is to remove myself from this cycle". The interactions, just how nice he was to me as a young guy. The quarterback also was taken a ton of punishment as the Colts failed to provide him a solid offensive line to protect him.
