Out-of-work free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who began the movement of NFL players protesting by kneeling during national anthem while he was playing for the San Francisco 49ers previous year, is expected to be invited to the next meeting between owners and players.

The deal, reportedly worth just over $1 million, is with One World, an imprint of Random House.

When two dozen NFL representatives and players met last week to discuss the issues behind a league-wide protest during the national anthem, it was odd that the guy who started the movement wasn't involved.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Kaepernick had met with publishers in the NY offices of WME, however neither Kaepernick nor his agent have confirmed the potential book deal.

That meeting included 13 current or former players, plus 11 owners and representatives from the league and the NFL Players Association.

Colin Kaepernick did not attend the first meeting on national anthem protests. Because he didn't receive the formal invitation, it seems Kaepernick opted not to attend, though that is not certain.

Kaepernick was reportedly invited by players to attend a meeting on October 17, but did not attend because he didn't want to be a distraction.

Bledsoe had reportedly engaged with McDonough and the team's owner Robert Sarver in the preseason about wanting a trade. Asked specifically if Bledsoe had played his last game in a Suns uniform, McDonough answered, "I don't know that yet".

The original meeting included 13 current or former players, plus 11 owners and representatives from the National Football League and NFLPA, according to ESPN. Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell took a knee during the national anthem to show his solidarity for Kaepernick's protest.

On Wednesday, during the league's weekly conference call, NFL Spokesman Joe Lockhart confirmed that an invite would be extended to Kaepernick and said, "We look forward to him joining the conversation".

One major finding that stood out in the survey is the desire for a national leader-the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback stood out among the choices given to respondents.

Kaepernick, who filed a grievance against the NFL owners on October 15 alleging they colluded to keep him out of the league, hired lawyer Mark Geragos to represent him.

There was backlash among the league due to Kaepernick's absence in the past. Several teams have had to justify not pursuing Kaepernick, who threw for 16 touchdowns and ran for two more last season against four interceptions, while signing other clearly inferior options.

That will be a hard allegation to prove, unless team personnel left a trail of communications indicating collusion.
