Ministry spokesman Baek Tae-Hyun said South Korean and United States officials were closely monitoring relevant moves in preparation for North Korea's "further provocation", Xinhua news agency reported. The remarks were made by presidential Blue House spokesman Park Su-hyun in a media briefing after the standing committee of the Blue House's National Security Council held a regular meeting to discuss recent events.
"When managing both a chronic and an acute challenge such as those posed by North Korea, the South Korean government needs someone on the scene who can provide tight alliance consultation on the ground and 24/7", Patrick Cronin, an Asia scholar and Republican at the Center for a New American Security, an influential bipartisan think tank, told BuzzFeed News.
The advisor also called for the community to "remember that there are defenses in place for threats such as North Korea and to continue to remain prepared for all hazards". Baek said the South Korean military authorities maintained a complete defense readiness in preparation for several possible situations, urging North Korea "to stop provocation and change attitude". But Tillerson said that does not mean the U.S.is moving closer to a military strike.
