Michael Phelps vs. Great White Shark

One of "Shark Week's" highlights is swimmer Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, racing a Great white.

While the Great White swam the race at a slow pace - with brief bursts of speed - Phelps attempted to outpace the shark by cruising and maintaining the same steady rate.

This week Michael Phelps is due to take on a great white shark in a race as he takes part in Discovery's Shark Week 2017.

Sure, Phelps has 28 Olympic medals. Unsurprisingly, this doesn't mean that the two competitors will be swimming side by side in their respective lanes, but rather that each will swim a specified length so that the people involved in the Shark Week special can compare their speeds.

Discovery spent the majority of the telecast waxing poetic about the great white shark and projected it to swim 100 meters in under 40 seconds.
