Five-time champion Venus Williams won in her 100th singles match at Wimbledon to knock out French Open victor Jelena Ostapenko and reach the semi-finals.
Jelena Ostapenko advanced to her first Wimbledon quarter-final as the French Open champion finally converted her eighth match point to defeat Elina Svitolina 6-3, 7-6 (8/6) on Monday.
In the women's draw, five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams won, and top-ranked Angelique Kerber lost.
Meanwhile, Garbine Muguruza reached her second Wimbledon semi-final with a powerful straight-set victory over seventh seed Svetlana Kuznetsova. It also was the first time in her career that she had beat a player who had won the previous major.
Kerber will lose her No. 1 ranking to either Simona Halep or Karolina Pliskova-who lost in the second round. She broke in the first game, held serve with two backhand winners, broke again in the fifth game, 4-1, and with some impressive low hitting to the and from the corners. And to open things up even further, Jelena Ostapenko, the shock French Open victor, powered her way past fourth seed Elena Svitolina 6-3, 7-6 (6).
Ostapenko, 20, who reached this past May aged 19 and never having surpassed a Grand Slam third round in seven tries, now has surpassed two.
The only problem came with Wimbledon's decision to relegate the match to No. 2 Court rather than Centre Court.
"I think I deserve to play on a better court than Court 12", Ostapenko said.

Ostapenko's serve was not accurate and her errors were too common as her opponent stoically stood her ground against her. Azarenka, who gave birth to son Leo in December, was playing in just her second tournament since returning to competition. Several weeks ago, she stunned the audience and the entire sports community by completing a dream run in Paris to win the2017 French Open.
At Wimbledon, Ostapenko is into the quarterfinals for the first time.
Ostapenko confirmed her status as one of the rising stars of the women's game when she earned a surprise victory at Roland Garros last month.
Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova is into her maiden Grand Slam quarter-final after a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 win over Croatian qualifier Petra Martic.
