The THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defence) system is US Army anti-ballistic missile defence system.
The U.S. Missile Defense Agency confirmed to Reuters that it planned a THAAD test "in early July".
The exercise by two B-1B Lancers, flown from Andersen Air Base in Guam, was part of a 10-hour mission with South Korean and Japanese fighter jets in response to a "series of increasingly escalatory actions by North Korea including the intercontinental ballistic missile" on Tuesday, US Pacific Air Forces said.
The THAAD element provides the ballistic missile defense system with a globally-transportable, rapidly-deployable capability to intercept and destroy ballistic missiles during their final, or terminal, phase of flight.
Dave Semenko, two-time Stanley Cup victor , dies at 59
In 575 games in the National Hockey League from 1977 to 1988, Semenko has amassed 153 points, including 65 goals. The franchise called Semenko a "fierce competitor and a loyal teammate".
"North Korea's continued pursuit of nuclear& ballistic missile programmes and proliferation links pose grave threat to worldwide peace".
The Missile Defence Agency said Thaad had a 100 per cent successful track record in its 13 flight tests since 2006. While the North Koreans may have the technology to send a missile to Alaska, with THAAD, it appears doubtful that it would hit its target.
The US military this year began deploying THAAD to South Korea in a move that drew criticism from China, which has argued the deployment would further destabilize the situation on the Korean peninsula and adding that the system's powerful radar can probe deep into Chinese territory. China and Russian Federation opposed THAAD's deployment in Korea, saying it would destabilize the power balance in the region. This statement from Beijing and Moscow accuses the US of using the threat from North Korea to expand their military presence in Asia, upsetting the region's balance of power. Is the growing threat from North Korea enough to sway congress to continue the deployment in South Korea?
