Lucky Spieth takes win

Jordan Spieth needed an extra hole, a little bit of luck and an unbelievable final shot Sunday to finish off a wire-to-wire victory in the PGA Tour's Travelers Championship.

For the playoff, Spieth and Daniel Berger went back to the 18th tee.

The 23-year-old Texan joined Tiger Woods as the only PGA Tour players in the era since World War II with 10 victories before turning 24. Woods won 15 tournaments before he turned 24. He won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier this year.

Berger was trying to come from behind for the second time in three weeks, winning the St. Jude's Classic two weeks ago in Memphis, Tennessee.

Berger could do nothing but look on as the madness unfolded and was extremely gracious in defeat, saying in his post-round interview that it was Jordan Spieth doing Jordan Spieth things. "He's a guy everybody very much respects and really likes being around, and that's fun". "I didn't think 12 under would win today and it was hard enough to hold him to that".

Daniel Berger (66) was three strokes back. "I felt more comfortable in the bunker than from four feet (and) I got really lucky to hit the tree and have it go in the fairway". Spieth had a one-shot league on Boo Weekley entering the final day of the tournament. Berger's attempt to answer from off the green was close but missed.

It also marked the second time Spieth has holed out from a bunker in a such a pressure situation. When the ball hit the pin and dropped in for a birdie, he threw his sand wedge with his left hand and jumped in a joyous side-chest bump celebration with caddie Michael Greller.

The 2017 Travelers Championship ended with a bang-well, more of a shot. Opening with a scintillating 63, he was the third player to win wire-to-wire at the tournament.

Paul Broadhurst shot a 3-under 69 at University Ridge to maintain a two-stroke lead in the American Family Insurance Open in Madison, Wis.

Couples played alongside Steve Stricker (69), the tournament host who tied for third place.

CT natives Brett Stegmaier (Madison) and J.J. Henry (Fairfield) stand at 3-under and even par, respectively.

Israeli settlement construction in West Bank rises by 70%
Settlements are also considered an obstacle to peace because they are built on land Palestinians claim for a future state. According to Peace Now, the new settlement's location was "strategic for the fragmentation of the West Bank".

Spieth didn't waste any time extending his lead to three strokes Sunday.

With his victory, Spieth has claimed 10 PGA Tour victories.

"What a tremendous last four holes, finishing holes, where you can get the crowd super involved with an amphitheater setting", Spieth said.

Berger rebounded from a bogey at the first to birdie No. 2, 13, 15 and 17.

EUROPEAN TOUR: Andres Romero had seven birdies in his last 11 holes to win the BMW International Open by one stroke in Munich.

Danny Lee has scored his biggest payday of the PGA Tour season after a third-equal effort at the Travelers Championship, but it was Jordan Spieth who grabbed the title with a remarkable bunker shot.

"This is a moment that changes my life", the 36-year-old said.

Garcia's hopes took a hit with his second bogey on the 16th hole, while Bland had his second bogey on the 17th.

Berger and Spieth, both members of the vaunted high school Class of 2011, are friends who have known each other since they were teen-agers competing in junior golf. Hoffman faded and finished the day at 6-under.

Reed opened with a 67 Thursday and followed with a 68 in the second round.
