The Government has annouced a team of experts will examine the Hotpoint fridge freezer, model FF175BP, which police today confirmed caused the fire.
In an update on the investigation, Fiona McCormack from London's Metropolitan Police said: "We are looking at every criminal offence from manslaughter onwards".
Police said both the insulation and tiles used in cladding at the 24-storey Grenfell Tower block failed all post-fire safety tests.
"Preliminary tests on the insulation samples collected from Grenfell Tower showed that it combusted soon after the tests started", she said. Officials say cladding samples from 11 other high-rise buildings in eight municipalities in the United Kingdom, including in London, have also failed tests.
Repeating concerns from police commander Stuart Cundy about the scale of the task in identifying the victims, Ms McCormack added: "There is a awful reality that we may not find or identify everyone who died due to the intense heat".
When speaking about the 79 people dead, presumed dead or missing, McCormack said: "I fear that there are more".
A resident of Grenfell Tower had been overheard telling people that his fridge started the fire. "We will look at the refurbishment".
While the new information provides details about the fire's source, McCormack said the investigation is working to determine why the blaze spread so quickly, and with such tragic effects.
After Friday's statement, Tony Rice, a shareholder of Omnis Exteriors, which manufactured materials for Grenfell's cladding system, stepped down from the board of trustees of Shelter London, a charity that has been providing advice and support to the victims of the fire.

They added they are working with authorities to obtain access to the appliance so they can assist with ongoing investigations.
Police had shared the result of the tests with the government and with local councils around the country.
"What we haven't got is a picture of how many people might have been in there", she said.
"I've made the really, really hard decision to move the people living there into temporary accommodation while we do the urgent works to guarantee safety", Gould told reporters outside the public housing complex.
"However, we have chose to test the material to provide additional reassurance for our residents".
The police will consider manslaughter charges, the Evening Standard newspaper quoted her as saying. Police on Friday said they had removed every "complete" body found in the charred remains of the tower, although forensic research would likely continue until the end of the year.
