U.S. fells 2nd aircraft this week over Syria

The dispute over the Syrian attack on the USA -backed fighters and the American response came as Iran launched ballistic missiles at Islamic State strongholds in eastern Syria in retaliation for a pair of attacks by extremists in Tehran earlier this month that killed 17 people and wounded more than 50.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards said in a statement that it fired missiles from a base in western Iran hitting the headquarters of "Takfiri terrorists" in eastern Syria.

The launch of surface-to-surface, medium-range missiles into Syria's Deir el-Zour province comes as Islamic State militants fleeing a US -led coalition onslaught increasingly try to fortify their positions there. Iran's Revolutionary Guard described the strike as revenge for Islamic State attacks on Tehran earlier this month that killed at least 18 people and wounded more than 50. The attacks marked the first time that ISIS, a Sunni Muslim group fighting Iranian-backed militias in Syria, has claimed responsibility for an attack in Iran.

Russia, also an ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, issued a warning of its own to the United States in response to the downing of the Syrian jet, saying on Monday it would view as targets any planes flying west of the Euphrates River, though it stopped short of saying it would shoot any down.

Iran's missile attack on the Islamic State (IS, ISIS, ISIL, Daesh) was a "must" and a demand of the Iranian public, former MP Abolfazl Shakuri says. "We are tracking their actions and also their words".

Trump has also referred to the landmark nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers under the Obama administration as "disastrous" and the "worst deal ever negotiated".

Heading a high-ranking delegation comprising five ministers from his cabinet, al-Abadi arrived in Tehran on Tuesday as the second leg of his three-nation tour including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in a bid to "foster regional reconciliation".

Separately, Fox News has learned more about the Iranian missiles fired into eastern Syria yesterday.

Iran's larger, longer-range missiles have struggled with accuracy problems in the past, as many lack global positioning satellite receivers.

Stressing that the recent attacks in Tehran were not the first attempts made by terrorists on Iranian soil, Rouhani added that Iran's intelligence Ministry and Armed Forces have reacted accordingly to the recent attacks and have been able to foil tens of such attacks in the past.

While Iran fights ISIS in Iraq, it rarely does so in Syria, where it has been mostly expending its resources on fighting the Syrian rebels. It is still unclear what the missiles struck, and Iran has provided few details.

Iran's strike was conducted by forces from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, the country's radical paramilitary group, on Sunday.
