The Spanish authorities' crack down on multi-millionaires not paying their taxes is showing no signs of stopping, and the latest to fall victim to their investigative teams is none other than Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.
The 54-year-old Portuguese, who coached Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, was accused of "two offences against the public treasury", the office said in a statement. The finance ministry had claimed Di Maria hid the money, which related to income from his image rights, via an opaque financial structure involving companies in Ireland and Panama.
Reports are now also claiming that Real Madrid is willing to pay the tax amount but the Real Madrid president also refuted this, saying that Ronaldo wouldn't want them to do so, The Guardian reported.
Ronaldo is not the first footballer who has been accused of tax fraud in Spain. There is nothing Real Madrid have to do now.
Last week, Ronaldo was accused by a state prosecutor of four counts of tax fraud totaling 14.7 million euros ($16.5 million).
