In our exclusive interview with Transformers: The Last Knight producer Di Bonaventura, the premiere blockbuster filmmaker told us that filming on Bumblebee will begin this August, followed by an expected theatrical release later next summer.
With "Transformers: The Last Knight" (opening in theaters on Wednesday), we have arrived at the fifth movie in the series based on the legendary Hasbro toys - perhaps the franchise that's most in on the joke that everything on the screen is just insane. Twitter erupted in groans and complaints yesterday as people began to realize that the placement of the red carpet made it rather hard for the average citizen to enjoy the spectacle. It focuses too heavily on human characters and features the same tasteless type of Michael Bay humor.
Said Wahlberg, who reprises his role as Cade from the fourth movie: "Michael created this entire universe, so for him to give the helm to somebody else, I think it is going to be hard".
Bay says this is the final time he'll sit in the director's chair for a "Transformers" movie, and, if that's so, it's a very Bay way to go out. In the midst of it all, Sir Anthony Hopkins presumably collects a sizeable pay-packet for playing an eccentric English aristocrat who just happens to be in tune with the Transformers (he has his own robot butler) and a catastrophe that is about to strike the planet. The Last Knight isn't even out yet, but already everyone's talking about the Bumblebee movie. Woo. "The storyline allowed me to write melodies that are a bit more "classical" than I've written for the other Transformers films, which was a lot of fun for me".

One thing's clear: Whatever you think about the Transformers' films, Paramount's not making these movies for the USA anymore.
This movie is 2-1/2 hours of nothing but non-stop action, excitement, surprises and awesome special effects. The breathtaking visuals stand out - you can nearly pinpoint every detail in each scene. However, I was surprised by some of the language used in the movie - I really enjoyed Transformers as a kid and I'm not sure my parents would have allowed me to watch this one.
While there's an obvious downward trend in interest in the "Transformers" franchise in the states, it continues to make more money overseas. "For me, you know, I'm super overprotective", he confessed to Entertainment Tonight. Even grading on a "Transformers" curve, this thing is hard to stay engaged with - and we're talking pretty early in its two-and-a-half-hour run time.
