Lonzo Ball's destiny with the Lakers has come true

When asked about LaVar's playoffs prediction, Lakers coach Luke Walton smiled.

LaVar Ball has vowed that oldest son Lonzo would end up with the Lakers for two years, claiming he could speak his dream into existence.

Walton's approach is certainly a lot more diplomatic.

The Lakers haven't made the postseason in the last four seasons, and their last appearance was a sweep in the first round by the San Antonio Spurs in 2013. The Lakers are smart enough to only allow information they want to go public to the press, and this seems to fit the criteria. Ever since the Lakers got the No. 2 choice in the lottery last month, most draft observers have believed Ball will wear a gold jersey in the fall, completing a serendipitous match of player and team.

Why should Lakers fans be excited about Ball?

He's heralded for having the best court vision and passing skills in his class, and his 41.2 percent clip from downtown - albeit with a funky jump shot form - rounds out a versatile offensive attack. This clearly indicates that the Lakers do indeed want Lonzo Ball, as well as a more defensively skilled player. On Tuesday, the Lakers traded D'Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Brook Lopez and the 27th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. "They need a point guard, and I feel like I can fill that hole".

The 6-foot-6 guard has had scouts' attention since his high school days at Chino Hills High School (CA).

During his one year at UCLA, Ball averaged 14.6 points, 7.6 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest. He was one of two players in the country to manage two triple-doubles and was the first player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to have two triple-doubles in league play in the same season. "I told him, 'Point guard.' He was like, 'All right, if you're going to play point guard, you've got to get the ball up'".

Nothing is certain, but barring an unforeseen, unfortunate turn of events, Ball has little chance of falling to the No. 8 pick and into the clutches of Phil Jackson, the president of Team Triangle, also known as the New York Knicks.
