The court also sentenced the president of the university to two years in prison, Yonhap reported.

Chung, now 21 and an Asian Games equestrian gold medalist, had her entrance to the university and her high school diploma canceled after authorities found her high school attendance and test grades had been forged.

Chung was extradited from Denmark last month and is now being investigated by prosecutors who see her as a key figure in the suspected bribery connections between former President Park and corporate giant Samsung.

According to prosecutors, Ms Park colluded with Choi Soon-sil to take about $26 million in bribes from Samsung and was promised tens of millions of dollars more from Samsung and other large companies.
