Officials on Wednesday evacuated an airport in Flint, Michigan, where a witness said he saw an officer bleeding from his neck and a knife nearby on the ground.

Authorities say the police officer injured at a Flint, Michigan, airport is in critical condition. He then stabbed an officer in the neck in a non-secured public area, police said. Neville is a former Genesee County Sheriff's lieutenant, Shaw said.

The suspect was arrested and was cooperating with investigators, FBI special agent David Gelios told a news conference. "We are aware of reports that the attacker made statements immediately prior to or while attacking the officer, but it is too early to determine the nature of these alleged statements or whether or not this was an act of terrorism".

He said there was no indication the man was part of a wider plot. "We now have no specific, credible information that there is a threat to the Flint community".

Authorities were conducting joint operations in Canada and the U.S. in the wake of the non-fatal stabbing at Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan, Gelios said. White House press secretary Sean Spicer said President Donald Trump was briefed on the stabbing, and U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said he was "proud of the swift response" by authorities from both the U.S. and Canada. Let the Federal Bureau of Investigation do what it has to do to determine what happened.

Mr Neville retired from that department as a lieutenant. The airport remained closed on Wednesday afternoon. The airport warned of potential cancellations and delays after the incident.
