The Public Prosecutor's office of Madrid filed a lawsuit against Jose Mourinho on Tuesday accusing him of defrauding the Spanish Taxman of 3.3 million euros (3.7 million dollars) during his time as Real Madrid coach.
Prosecutors said he had failed to declare revenues from his image rights in his Spanish income tax declarations from 2011 and 2012, "with the aim of obtaining illicit profits".
Now, the admission of the two counts of fraud in 2012 and 2013 will see him pay an additional fine of nearly €780,000.
Ronaldo, Portugal's all-time leading scorer, is the latest in a long line of football players in Spain - among them Barcelona forwards Lionel Messi and Neymar - to be caught up in cases over tax or transfers.
The 70-year-old construction magnate's third term in charge of Europe's most successful club spanning 15 years - 2000-2006 and since 2009 - will be rubber stamped at a ceremony at the Santiago Bernabeu later Monday.
Amid swirling reports that Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid and return to Manchester United, comes a fresh report from Spain's Marca that Mourinho is not in favor of a big-money move to sign the reigning Ballon d'Or victor.
