Bernie Sanders said in a floor speech Wednesday afternoon that he learned that Hodgkinson had volunteered for his progressive campaign for president, which focused on economic equality and almost toppled Hillary Clinton's presidential aspirations and threatened to derail the Democratic Convention last summer.
"I know he wasn't happy with the way things were going, the election results and stuff", the shooter's brother told the newspaper.
Sue Hodgkinson did respond "probably" when a reporter asked if her husband was "fed up with the system", the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. They had been separated since March when he went to Washington, D.C., to work on "changing the tax brackets".

Rep. Steve Scalise is still in critical condition, but his health is improving, the Congressman's surgeon said two days after Scalise was shot at a practice for the Congressional Baseball Game.

Sue Hodgkinson, the accused gunman's wife, told reporters Thursday she was shocked by her husband's actions, saying, "I can't believe he did this".

Hodgkinson was in the YMCA Sunday afternoon, according to Del Ray resident Kris Balderston, who said he had seen Hodgkinson in the gym before, alone and not in workout clothes.
"I yelled, 'Quit shooting toward the houses, '" Schaumleffel said.
The Republican lawmaker who represented Hodgkinson's hometown said Hodgkinson was "always angry" about the GOP agenda, but "never crossed the line".
