The Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics have agreed to a trade that will send the No. 1 pick in the draft to the Sixers, who intend to select Markelle Fultz.
Australia's Ben Simmons is nearly certain to team up with top point guard prospect Markelle Fultz in Philadelphia next season after the 76ers and Boston Celtics confirmed their National Basketball Association draft deal.
Which pick the Celtics will receive in 2018 or 2019 is a bit complicated. Fultz led the Pac-12 in scoring and finished No. 6 among all Division I players, and was the top freshman scorer in the country. The 76ers will likely also have to give a few other future picks and some role players to make the move.
"History suggests that No. 1 has the greatest odds of producing franchise-level talent, and we are confident that this year's draft class has that very potential", Sixers president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo said.
Philadelphia also owns four second-round picks, acquired in previous trades with the Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz.
